5 Old Classic Games That Will Live on Forever Through the Internet

If you’re like many gamers, you’re always looking for new games to play. Maybe you give a priority to new releases. Maybe you don’t care about the time a game was released as long as it’s captivating.

Either way, we have a selection of classic games you should try out at least once. These games have been entertaining us for years so much that developers have created internet versions of them.

Now, you won’t find franchises like Resident Evil, Doom and Grim Fandango, which all came out in the 1990s, but we have a list of amazing oldies nonetheless. Let’s dive right in.

#1: Classic Blackjack

Classic blackjack isn’t named so just because it’s a pretty old game—invented in the 1700s. It traces its name to the fact that it’s the original version of blackjack. There are more variants of the game: Blackjack Switch, Spanish 21, European, Vegas Strip and Atlantic City blackjack.

Classic Blackjack is blackjack in its purest form. It follows the same rules used a hundred years ago. Precisely, the primary goal is to beat your opponent, the casino, in producing a hand of 21.

The casino is represented at the blackjack tables by a dealer. As such, you play against a human dealer in Las Vegas. On the Internet, you can play the game against a human dealer (live casino) or against RNG software.

Either way, you need the right strategies and skills to beat a dealer. You get two cards facing up at the start of a game. You can also view one of the dealer’s two cards. In light of that information, you can make one of these moves:

  • Hit to receive an extra card
  • Take an insurance bet
  • Double down
  • Stand—play with existing cards

Crucially, you can use strategies to boost your odds of winning. Strategies guide you on the moves to make at different stages of a blackjack game. They guide you on when to hit, when to stand or split cards.

#2: Poker

The first poker game was played in New Orleans in the 1820s. Interestingly, players at the time would compete to produce the most valuable hand in a round. Little has changed in the 200 years since then.

Well, a lot has changed in the world of poker. For example, the game is played professionally and not just for fun. What’s more, there are different poker live games online: Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Caribbean poker and 5-Card draw, to name a few.

Unlike blackjack, poker is a game you play against a fellow competitor. That’s a good thing for many reasons. First, you can have fun with friends. Second, players have different skills levels. That means you can always find someone to beat.

With that in mind, there are also lots of better players out there. Some elite poker stars make millions of dollars annually by winning competitions every year. There’s no secret in winning, though. You have to be the best player in a table to keep your odds of winning high.

As we mentioned, winning means producing the best hand of poker. The beauty of poker, more so Texas Hold’em, is that it gives you a fair chance to win even when you don’t have the best hand around.

Let’s say you a two and a seven card. You don’t think you’ll form a valuable hand. You can always fold. If you have great cards, though, you can play aggressively to maximize your profits.

#3: Slots

Every now and then, someone tries to improve on slot machines. These improvements work marvelously but they don’t change the basics of slots. Precisely, mobile slots are still slots. Machines with increasing jackpots are still slots.

In other words, slots have passed the test of time. And they will most likely continue to rule the online gaming world for years to come. Surprisingly, there’s nothing sophisticated about slot machines.

Old classic machines used mechanic levels to produce winners and losers. Modern games rely on software to trigger winning symbols. The software used in slots is hackproof, which means the games are safe.

RNG software is created by humans, though. And sometimes, developers create their slots to favor the casinos more. Owing to that backdrop, the best slots come with high payout rates of at least 90%.

There are more interesting features you want to see in a slot game. For example, you can look at the graphics and bonus features like scatters and wilds. These features add excitement to slots and they can also increase your chances of winning.

#4: Baccarat

The precise date baccarat was invented is debatable. However, historians narrow it down to the 1400s, making this game one of the oldest card games in the world. Baccarat is named so because face cards and 10 cards have a value of zero—the name baccara means zero in Italian.

That said, baccarat can feel complicated to a novice player. There are two hands on the table: the player and the banker hand. The goal is to produce a hand of nine on either hand. As such, you can bet on either the banker or the player to win. You can also bet on a tie.

In baccarat, producing a hand bigger than nine doesn’t automatically lead to a loss. Instead, your hand of 13 becomes 3, a 14 becomes 4 and a 15 becomes 5. In other words, the one digit is eliminated to give you a new hand.

#5: Video Poker

Video poker might not be the most popular casino game but it has also passed the test of time. It’s been around for decades and at one time used to compete neck to neck for space with slots in Vegas.

Nowadays, slot machines dominate casinos. However, they still leave some space for video poker. It’s a close cousin of slots, after all. It uses RNG software to give you random poker cards. On the other hand, you use your poker knowledge to decide which cards to keep and which ones to discard.
