If your doctor is in an ACO, that ACO may be part of an ACO REACH organization. Thus, your chances of qualifying for CBD benefits under the Medicare plan can increase.
- Enhancing Oncology Model
This CMS model, launched in 2022, focuses on cancer patients by helping them manage chemotherapy-related side effects and pain. Oncology practitioners participating in this model can recommend hemp products to eligible patients as part of their care.
- LEAD Model
This long-term care network has been established for patients with dementia and similar conditions to provide them with better care. Under this model, Medicare CBD benefits are likely to start on January 1, 2027. As a result, you cannot expect to access the new benefits immediately. There is still some time before the benefits become available.
Nevertheless, the qualifying requirements for patients, doctors, and healthcare organizations are extensive yet comprehensive. You have to be a Medicare enrollee, be of a suitable age, and find a doctor who works for a healthcare organization that is affiliated with a care model, etc. Doctors can prescribe CBD only after reviewing your overall health and obtaining your consent. The healthcare organization must not only be part of a care model but also formally subscribe to the BEI initiative. It must manage the cost and inventory of hemp products.
