Can Fitbit Battery Be Replaced? Explained!

Is the battery of your Fitbit dying in just a couple of hours? Your Fitbit battery should be replaced if you have to charge it more than once a day.

Fitbits don’t have removable batteries, but you can still replace them. Here’s my guide to answering the question “Can your Fitbit battery be replaced and how to replace it?””

There is no truth to Fitbit’s claim that you cannot replace the battery in your Fitbit. With some technical knowledge, you can replace the Fitbit battery yourself or take it to a repair shop.

You might be wondering why Fitbit does not recommend replacing fitness band batteries. Let me tell about that here:

Why Fitbit doesn’t want their users to replace their batteries:

You might not know that changing your problematic battery is also an option. It is not limited to Fitbits. In most cases, electronic manufacturing companies don’t recommend users change their old devices’ batteries. The reason for this is that the newer models may not sell as well as older models.

By changing the batteries of their old devices more often, people will be less inclined to buy newer devices.

Secondly, Fitbit doesn’t talk about replacing the batteries of their wearables because their wearables don’t come with user-replaceable batteries (but you can replace your batteries yourself in this post). Fitbit simply doesn’t want its users changing their batteries.

How to Change the Fitbit Battery?

As with all batteries, Fitbits have a specific number of charging cycles before they need to be replaced. Over time, their capacity decreases as they become more and more charged.

Batteries will no longer be able to receive or store energy after a certain amount of charging cycles. They are declared dead at this point. Batteries should be replaced at this point.

Changing a battery is not as simple as it seems, so that is the primary concern. For this, you’ll need to disassemble your watch and get into its inner workings.

Don’t take the risk since not everyone can handle this. Instead, hire someone to do it for you.

The instructions below are for the Fitbit Charge HR, but these instructions should also apply to other Fitbit models with slight modifications since each Fitbit model has a specific battery. These instructions may not always be accurate.

My Fitbit isn’t charging. Why?

It is common for this problem to be caused by a dead battery. Prior to replacing the device, make sure it is completely dead.

The following steps will help you find out. If any of them work, great! Otherwise, you’ll have to take a risk since a dead battery can only be repaired or replaced.

Fitbit batteries last for how many years?

On average, Fitbit batteries last between three and five years. You might have a different experience with your Fitbit since it depends on several factors. Your charging habits determine your battery lifespan the most.

Your Fitbit’s battery lifespan will be shorter if you charge it whenever you want, or only when it’s dead. The person who charges it regularly with the same habit will have a longer Fitbit’s battery life.

My Fitbit won’t keep a charge. What should I do?

Follow the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device to clean the charging contacts on your device and the pins on your cable. A faulty USB port or outlet is to blame.

Consider using a UL-certified wall charger or a different USB port. Connect the charging cable to your device and check the alignment.

How do you charge a dead Fitbit?

Connect a dead Fitbit to its charging cable and plug the other end into a wall charger or computer USB port certified by UL. Charging should take 30-60 minutes.

Your dead Fitbit battery should be revived by this method. Use the Fitbit-approved charger included in the box. A third-party charger that hasn’t been approved isn’t a good idea.

How do you turn on a dead Fitbit?

Press and hold down the three buttons on your Fitbit for at least 20 seconds until the logo appears on the screen. A strong vibration will accompany the logo.

Force restarting is what is meant by this term. The same is true for smartphones. Follow these steps next time you are worried about reviving your dead Fitbit.
