This pesky issue bothers those who live on computer or can’t work without computers. Thus, extend C drive may become the first idea to pop out in your mind.

Why is the extend volume greyed out?

You open the Disk Management and right click the C partition, find the “Extend Volume” option, question appears: the option is greyed out. Why the operation is not allowed in Disk Management?

  1. Your disk doesn’t have any unallocated space.
  2. The unallocated space doesn’t follow the drive you wish to enlarge.
  3. Only RAW or NTFS drive can be extend.

So, with Disk Management, you need to create an unallocated space which is just right behind the drive that requires more space. For example, if the low space drive is C drive, first, you need to delete or move all data on the D drive, and then, make it an unallocated space, then you might try to see if the “Extend Volume” is applicable or not.
