How Several Industries Are Evolving With Mobile Apps

The beginning of the internet was simply massive for businesses in many different industries. It essentially opened doors we never would have dreamed possible and created so many new businesses in its wake. A new step in this evolution is that of mobile apps.

With most people having a superpowered computer in their pocket at all times, many industries have decided to release mobile apps that customers can utilize. This has created massive change in the business world, and we are experiencing another adapt-or-die moment. Here are several industries that are rapidly changing with the introduction of mobile apps.

Banking and Transactions

Most cities are becoming more focused on cashless transactions. While credit cards are still widely used, there are more options to send payments directly from your smartphone. Apps like Venmo, Square Cash, and Circle Pay are all dedicated to sending funds to friends in your city, around the world, or even directly to cashiers when you purchase a cup of coffee. It makes your daily transactions much quicker and more efficient than constantly using cash or credit cards.

Of course, traditional banks are also evolving by offering their own mobile apps. This makes it much simpler to manage your accounts and funds. You can see the balance on your credit cards, make payments, send funds between accounts, deposit checks, request credit line increases, and plenty of other things. Overall, banking and making payments are becoming more centered around mobile apps and will continue for the foreseeable future.

Sports Betting

When it comes to professional sports and betting, the live sports betting odds are different on every online platform and constantly changing. Bettors like to keep track of these details as well as statistics and scores. For some of these bettors, mobile apps have become very powerful and useful tools. Most well-known sports betting platforms have begun to offer these apps as an extension of their platforms to help meet customers’ demands.

Now, instead of checking multiple sources for player stats, live scores, and updated odds, many of these needs can be handled in one centralized place. This allows you to stop switching from tab to tab and instead focus on the game.

Food Delivery / Ride Shares

The taxi industry was one that was desperately in need of an overhaul, and as such, Silicon Valley dreamt up the beginning of ride sharing services with apps like Uber. This presented a revolutionary new concept. Instead of calling for a taxi or trying to hail one in the street, an independent contractor would drive directly to you and then bring you to your destination. You could follow him the whole way via the app, and leave reviews that help better drivers succeed.

Food delivery is another industry that needs an update. Much in the same way as ride-sharing, food delivery has been revolutionized by mobile apps. Now you have the ability to browse through hundreds of restaurants at a time, and once you order a driver will head to the restaurant, receive your order and then deliver it directly to you. This has become a massive industry, with apps like Grubhub and Doordash now generating millions of dollars in revenue every year.

Video Games

Video games used to be centered around bulky arcade cabinets and you would have to pay every time you wanted to play them. It’s been decades since these formative years and now video games have taken on many different forms. The latest is centered around mobile apps.

These games often utilize a free-to-play (freemium) model and generate income from ads or in-game purchases. The benefits of these games are vast. Many people can play for free, they are able to play anywhere, and they are simultaneously connected to massive servers that allow them to play with people from all around the world. It’s incredible to look back and see how far we’ve really come.

Telecom

Of course, one of the industries that has been most disrupted by mobile apps is the telecom industry. It’s plausible that this industry may soon cease to exist at all. Thanks to Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat and other apps, we no longer need a phone number whatsoever. As long as you have an internet connection, you are able to connect with people all over the world, oftentimes for free.
