Is Clubhouse the New Go-to Social Media App?

There is a new kid on the block in Social media world, and that is clubhouse. Clubhouse is an invite-based social media platform on which users make use of only audio chats to communicate with one another in groups.

Clubhouse took the world by surprise by using a never used medium of online communication, voice.

Clubhouse is a kind of hybrid between Zoom’s video conferencing and Spotify’s audio streaming, as it allows you to say all you want without being seen by anyone.

It was created by Paul Davison and Rohan Seth. It has privacy features that do not permit recording of any kind from the app, ensuring that no one outside of the application can hear the details of a conversation made on the application.

The app is open to only a beta group for now as the developers are still looking at testing the features and safety of the app. The app is currently used exclusively by iOS users as the developers have announced that they are still working on the android version of the application.

At the start of December 2020, clubhouse had only 3500 users. Fast forward to two month later, the user database has crossed the 2 million mark. One of the reasons for the popularity of the social media platform is the fact that people cannot connect physically in this period due to the times the world finds itself in.

When describing itself, the company said, “Clubhouse is a new type of product based on voice that allows people everywhere to talk, tell stories, develop ideas, deepen friendships, and meet interesting new people around the world.”

Clubhouse is currently valued at over $1 billion in less than one year of its existence. Clubhouse gained its popularity from the fact that celebrities from all over the world have warmed to its concept and have joined the platform.

Celebrities like the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, talk show host, Oprah Winfrey, artistes Drake and 21 savages, and a host of others have all joined the platform and made use of it to foster communication with other people.

Each group on clubhouse usually consists of a moderator who is in control and is responsible for permitting people to talk in the group, and members who can listen and give their thoughts by talking in such groups.

Other users can also listen in to conversations, making it a bit like physical eavesdropping. The platform even permits users to be involved in more than one conversation at a time, just like in real life.

Clubhouse is revered for its current exclusivity. As at now, only people with invites can use the platform, and invites can only be given by someone who is already a user of the platform. In a sense, it is like a concert which you require tickets to attend. Invites are usually given to users at the time of their registration. When a new user registers, they receive one invite and after a while, three more invites are given to them so that they can invite more friends into conversations.

While Android users still await the arrival of their own version of clubhouse, iOS users continue to enjoy the platform with all its features.

We wait to see if the developers can create another one for casino services in the future as part of its bid to ease online communication.
