The most dependable materials
The Monos team are highly passionate about travel, mindfulness and forming strong human connections. Their products are famed for their timeless simplicity and durability. The company only works with manufacturers that share their passion for excellence and meeting the highest possible standards. They have visited a host of manufacturers and factories to find partners that meet their expectations. Whenever a required component cannot be sourced, the team have no qualms about working with leading industry experts to design and produce it themselves.
Vast attention to detail
Travel-based mindfulness and becoming fully immersed in the present moment can help us to uncover the world’s deepest beauty. The products designed, created and supplied by Monos can remove the fuss and stress from travel. No matter how small a detail may seem, it is never too tiny to be overlooked by the Monos team. The company is also passionate about optimising its relations with its customers, collaborators and clients.
Craftsmanship and expertise
The company regards strong human connections as vital for promoting high living standards, product excellence and fulfilling travel experiences. This is reflected by one of the company’s slogans “good is the enemy of excellence”. Cases produced by the company have been seen at airports around the world. Monos strive to only work with companies that meet their standards in terms of attention to detail, craftsmanship and expertise. The company’s CEO Colin still personally examines each Carry-On case once it is finished to ensure it hasn’t fallen short of the required standard.
Rethinking the traditional suitcase
A range of innovations has been developed by the team to ensure expectations are met and even surpassed. One of the most notable changes made to the traditional travel suitcase was the replacement of cast zinc with high-grade aluminium. The telescopic assembly of suitcases has been reworked to reduce torsional and lateral movement, and ergonomic standards have been improved via the relocation of the handle release button to the underside of the case. The changes made have enhanced ease-of-use, aesthetic appeal and longevity.
Virtually unbreakable components
The company uses a range of innovative and dependable materials to ensure its luggage cases stand the test of time. One of the most significant materials is the German Makrolon polycarbonate used for vacuum forming. This lightweight material is so durable it is almost unbreakable. Lisof Silent Run wheels from the Japanese manufacturer and Mitsubishi collaborator Hinomoto are used to deliver quiet operation. On the interior of the cases, customers will see durable, anti-bacterial and waterproof 350 polyester fibre. The telescopic handle is set at an angle that limits wobbling and lateral wobbling. The YKK reverse coil zippers give the cases a sleek appearance.
Rigorous testing processes
As the team are so determined to ensure their products meet their sky-high standards, 40 tests are carried out before the cases reach the market. Each of these tests has been fine-tuned to ensure the full spectrum of likely challenges can be overcome. The tumble test sees the case loaded with a weight of 16kg. It is then placed inside a rotating chamber where high drops, rough handling and tough impacts are simulated.
During the mileage test, cases are angled then rolled onto a specialized bumped treadmill to simulate rough, uneven terrain. As part of the telescopic handle jerk test, cases are dropped from height before being stopped by the handle. Cases are stored at minus 12 degrees for hours as part of the drop test before being loaded with weights up to 25kg. They are then dropped onto various surfaces, edges and corners.
No need to compromise
The company’s CCO Hubert Chan said the Monos wanted to “educate consumers on what a premium suitcase could be”. He said some manufacturers had prioritised style over substance, “falling flat” on quality, whilst others marked their prices up so high they could only be accessed by the elite. Minos aim to help their customers avoid choosing between quality, design and affordability.
