Tips for College Students to Excel in Online Courses

With the increase in technology, being an online student is very common nowadays. Many colleges hold amazing opportunities for the students to pursue online higher education and get an online degree all from the comfort of their home. Nowadays, it’s very important to keep yourself updated with new things to compete in this competitive learning environment. Even many scholarships like Benjy Grinberg, Sam Haskell etc. have basic application requirements like where it’s asked to write about the hobbies, passion, learning journey etc. So those with good domain knowledge or with prior learnings and interests, it will impress the scholarship giver and increase your chances of getting shortlisted.

However, many students find it hard to concentrate on their school while working outside your traditional classroom and in an area where you are mostly watching TV or sleeping. So, with the help of the tip I am going to share with you can concentrate on your school as well as excel in it.

Some of the tips are as follows:

1. Have Your Own Study Space

First of all, you don’t need a whole room for your classes. You should definitely not study on your bed because you are mostly likely to get sleepy on it (speaking from a personal experience).

What you need a table or desk which you can make your own study space. In that space you study and attend your classes. You can keep all your study material on your desk. Also, you have to make it comfortable for yourself.

2. Keep a Morning Routine

To help you concentrate on your studies and excel in the online courses, you need to set a routine for yourself.

For example, when I was having my online classes, I would wake at a fixed time every day in the morning, take a bath, eat my breakfast, then I would start my classes. You can also go out for a walk or just to roam around. You don’t have to sit around the house all the time and study all the time to excel.

3. Eat Healthy

You should decrease your intake of junk foods and snacks as it makes you lazier which you don’t need to be if you are studying from your home. So, you should cut back on that and try to eat some healthy foods. I am not telling you eat only healthy food.

But try to eat fruits or less oily or fatty foods. Also stop eating outside food much and try to eat homemade food as much as you can. You can also save some money on junk food through this.

4. Stay Away From Distractions

It is really easy for you to get distracted if you are studying from home (I know I do). Some of the distractions make be like TV, your mobile phone, family members, etc.

What I would do to avoid these distractions is keep my mobile phone away during the classes, keep the TV off and tell my family members to not be in the same room if I am studying. Because I get easily distracted even if someone is sitting quietly in the room with me.

5. Make a Plan

The best way for you to excel in your online courses is to keep a schedule. You can keep a planner or notebook, and write a schedule like a timetable for yourself which you have to follow every day.

You can keep your study time, leisure time, lunch or other activities for the day planned out so that you can do all the work in time and also concentrate on your studies. It is really important for you to set hours for yourself if you want to excel.

So, these were the tips which you need to follow if you want to excel in your online courses. These are the tips which I, myself have followed during my exams and it worked out for me. So, I hope that it works out for you as well. Hope this article was helpful for you.
