What are Electronic Performance and Tracking Systems and How Can People Use Them?

When it comes to technology and sports combining, few advances can have the same kind of impact that electronic performance and tracking systems can have.

These systems are being used by athletes to assess their performance, while if the general public could have the information too, it would no doubt be an incredibly useful tool for some people.

Electronic performance and tracking systems, known as EPTS for short, cover either camera based or wearable technology to control, understand and improve a player or team’s performance.

Positional tracking, heart rate monitors, ball tracking and many other fitness-based devices are used to create data based on a performance.

How Players Can Improve Their Performances Using EPTS

There are many players out there across different sports who are trying to improve themselves. From players in the Premier League who play team sports to those who are individuals on the tennis court, everyone wants to be better.

With EPTS and crucial data, players can have everything they need to know what they need to work on. Of course, there are no guarantees that this will work, but players will know exactly what they need to work on.

For example, if a player sees their success rate for shots on goal or passes completed decreases as the game goes on, it is clear that their tiredness is affecting things and they need to work on their stamina.

For a tennis player, this could be seen by the number of games they lose which go to the final set. What could be included here is whether they are the favourite to win a game or not. If they are favourite but lose quite often, that could be a sign they are struggling with fitness.

However, the opposite is winning games as an underdog, and this could be a sign of above average fitness, which would be something that the player doesn’t need to work on as much because they are superior to others.

The right tools and data do not guarantee progress but they can point a professional athlete in the right direction and show them what they need to do to move forward.

Could EPTS Data be Useful for the Public?

Reading the EPTS data would be fascinating for fans of any sport. The revelations would allow fans to pull together data when analysing their team’s performance, or that of individuals, rather than basing it on what they see alone.

People would have far more at their fingertips for analysing purposes and that could help those who place bets and take advantage of mobile betting promotions. This kind of data would be a gold mine for a full-time punter who had the ability to dissect it and then bet accordingly based on it.

It is unlikely that we will ever see this kind of data in the public domain. Examples are likely and you may hear about people using this to improve themselves, but the full data will be strictly confidential and kept between players and their coaches.
