Jesus is a historical figure who is known for a lot of things that we did thousands of years ago when he existed on earth. Many people might know him as a Christian figure who started off leading a very small number of people to now having millions of followers all over the world. To other religions, such as Islam and Judaism, Jesus was simply known as a prophet and not the savior that Christians claim him to be.
To historians, Jesus is simply a figure who appeared thousands of years ago and lived in Israel, who also became a symbol and leader of the Christian faith. But who is Jesus really? Is he really who he claims to be? Many people know of Jesus as someone who died on the cross and took up the sin of humanity. Those who believe in him will be saved and receive eternity and salvation. But many of the things he taught were actually despised and hated by many people at the time of the First Coming of Jesus. Jesus teaching made people really angry.
In the end, the reason why he was crucified was because some people turned him in and put him on the cross to die. Jesus’ teachings were obviously misunderstood by the people back then because now, Christianity claims Jesus’ teachings as a way of life. But what did Jesus exactly teach?
First of all, many things that Jesus taught were unclear to many people because he spoke in a figurative language, known as parables in the Scriptures. Parables are like similes and metaphors; using something else to describe one’s intention. This makes it hard to decipher what Jesus is actually saying in the Bible. There were people who understood what he was saying though, like the twelve disciples who constantly asked him what the parables meant. But what was the content of these parables? Jesus talked about a lot of things, but among the most important things were about heaven and eternal life.
He expresses this through many parables in the New Testament such as the parable of the mustard seed and the parable of the net. All these parables described an aspect of the kingdom of heaven. A lot of believers also know that Jesus taught to love one another as well. He was a servant of God and showed this through his humility in also serving his disciples. All these things happened 2,000 years ago and we’re able to understand it through the Bible.
But Jesus’ work did not end at the First Coming. He has also left prophecies or promises for the time of the Second Coming when he will return. The notorious book of Revelation for instance, is Jesus’ revelation as stated in the first few verses of the first chapter of Revelation. In this is contained the things that will take place at the Second Coming.
These are all the things that Jesus taught and we have the privilege of reading it all in the good book today. The question that remains in thinking about this is how to go about finding a means to answer these questions.
