How Much is Technology Influencing Our Car Buying Decisions?

There are a lot of influences involved when we decide to purchase a new car. We think of what we need it for – business or leisure. We think of who might be using it and whether they have any special requirements. We also think of how we will look in it, as a new car is often seen as a badge and an extension of who we are. Many also consider environmental implications and technical abilities, especially with so many new features being incorporated into the latest models. But how is this new technology influencing people’s car-buying habits?

Seatbelts, Airbags… and Self-Driving?

Technology plays an increasingly important role in the selection of a new car. We employ digital methods of viewing cars – from photosets and specs found online to video demonstrations of how the car drives and how it looks. We also look for what the car can do aside from take us from A to B. High-spec cars have grown increasingly popular. For instance, much excitement has been drummed up for the James Bond-style ability to unlock your car with your watch. Built-in sat-navs, for instance, are something many consider as important when buying a new car. Self-driving cars are also covetable – with 40% of Americans leaning towards the idea of having a self-driving car according to findings published on Reuters in October 2019. There are still some kinks to work out but if the industry takes off, many will want to take advantage of the latest and most futuristic vehicular technology we have.

Electric Dreams for the Future of Driving

Electric cars are also something many car buyers are beginning to seriously consider. US sales of electric vehicles increased by 81% by the end of 2018 according to GTM, indicating that many are considering the implications of their driving on the environment. But green credentials aside, electric cars are also attracting those interested in their other benefits, including more affordable running costs. The major change in how cars can operate shows a move towards the future of driving – and many are looking to adopt electric cars because they represent the 21st century. Electric cars demonstrate the very best of technology. Anyone who wants to invest in a vehicle that looks to be the new wave of cars may look towards an electric one.

Do Better Cars Make You Look More Professional?

A car with such high spec would especially attract those who use the vehicle for business use. There are certainly benefits for those who want to use a high-spec car for leisure, but it would shine through more for commercial users for many reasons. To compound the look and feel of the car, it’s also important to ensure you have the proper failsafes in place for the vehicle. Not only can insurance help protect you legally should anything unexpected occur, including personal injuries, collisions and other damage, as as the breakdown of commercial vehicle insurance by Next Insurance shows, but it also sends a message to those you are conducting business with that you are professional and dedicated to ensuring you meet all requirements Technology plays a part in everything we do – and an even bigger one in purchases such as cars. Not only do we use technology to decide on a new car, but we use it as a determining factor in which car to buy. Does the new car fit into the ideas we have for modern technology such as being driverless, electric or even having heated seats? These will be the important aspects to consider for those making cars in the years to come.
