Progress Over Perfection: The ‘Deepak Mentality’ for Success

Introduction

There is a spiritual quote found in much literature today when it comes to approaching life’s tasks. The quote is known as ‘Progress over Perfection’. Some people are aware of it, but many aren’t. Today there is a mentality that perfection is everything. Perfection is on everyone’s lips, but so many people are scared of it and less know how to achieve it.

That is why Deepak Shukla has shared some valuable perspectives on how perfection can be attained through imperfection! Trying to make progress in an area is the best way to perfect a goal. In the corporate world, Progress over perfection will be a great mentality to have when making a business strategy a reality.

The Deepak Mentality

You may be asking yourself what is so wrong about pursuing perfection. Many of us want to be the best at whatever we’re doing. It may be to be the best golf player or to make sure you have the best feedback of your restaurant online. But, sometimes that goal is out of reach, at least for the time being.

Chances are that you may have a bad game of golf, or someone may leave a bad review of your restaurant! However, according to Deepak’s mentality, you keep trying. You may have underperformed in the golf game, but progress is getting back on the course. Someone may not have appreciated your restaurant’s food, but progress is improving the dish. They say that the master has failed more times than the student has even tried.

The ‘Two Driver’ Analogy

In his blog, Deepak talks about the Two Driver analogy. There are two drivers who need to prepare for a race. One driver is told that he can prepare for the race by driving whenever he wants and whatever he wants. One driver is told that he can’t use a car that is similar to the one he’ll be racing in.

This seems like a very unfair scenario! One driver has been given circumstances that are much harder to win the race with. Perfection would tell this driver to give up, that it’s an unfair scenario and that he will most likely not win.

But what about Progress? Progress says to try your best. Driver one can still use a different car, try out the track or one similar to it. The point is that progress will still improve the outcome. The next track could be easier. The circumstances may not apply the second time around.

Or maybe just maybe, the Driver with the harder circumstances will still win the race.

King Solomon, the King of Ancient Israel, one of the wisest kings in the Bible, said that ‘life is not a Race for the Swift, or a Battle for the Strong’ What does that mean? It means that the fastest person doesn’t always win the race. The Perfection attitude may fail you, the Progress attitude may see you succeed.

Deepaks Blog will show you why perfection can be attained through progress and to not give up when things seem imperfect.
